Stuck in a Loop

Time-loop films in the spirit of Groundhog Day — repetition as a path to change.

There's a peculiar comfort in the time loop, once the panic wears off — the idea that a day can be lived again and again until you finally get it right, or at least stop being the person who kept getting it wrong. These films use repetition the way a poem uses a refrain: each pass reveals something the last one missed, until the loop itself becomes less a trap than a teacher.

Edge of Tomorrow

2014 Action, Science Fiction

Major Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. He awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again... and again - as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.
