Förtrollande dokumentär som växlar mellan insamlandet av växter på ett botaniskt museum och restaureringen av celluloid på ett filmarkiv. Leandro Listorti försöker väva samman dessa till synes olika världar. Det berättas om Christobal Hicken som var en av 1900-talets viktigaste botanister i Argentina. Hans brorsson Pablo Ducros Hicken däremot samlade på sig en av världens största samlingar av filmkameror och projektorer, och har gett namn till det argentinska filmmuseet. Listorti vill även visa på två fält som ständigt kämpar mot sitt försvinnande, och vikten av vem som bestämmer om vad som ska sparas. Han pekar på att vi genom studiet av gamla växter kan få kunskap om dagens klimatförändringar. Även de olika filmmaterialen måste bevaras rätt för att kunna visa vårt förflutna. Innan han började filma jobbade Listorti som curator, maskinist och filmarkivist. Herbaria är analogt filmad (både på 16 och 35 mm) av honom själv och klipps ihop med äldre filmer om undervattensväxter och skadad nitratfilm. I sitt magnum opus ger sig Jean-Luc Godard på att berätta filmens, 1900-talets och sin egen historia i ett och samma verk. I de två första avsnitten av Histoire(s) du cinéma lyfter han fram tre stora händelser från det förra seklet: ryska revolutionen, Nazityskland och filmen. Den senare särskilt representerad av Hollywood med och dess fokus på berättelser om sex och död. Godard hävdar att i begynnelsen hade filmmediet enorm potential men kom att sälja sig till makten, pengarna och ondskan. Samtidigt är Godard tillitsfull när han citerar Paulus ord om att "bilden skall återkomma vid uppståndelsens tid." Det finns således hopp bortom all brutalitet. Bilden tröstar och helar med en ny våg. I slutet av 1b citeras Heidegger: "att vara poet i nödens stund." Konstnären är den som motsätter sig de mäktigas strypgrepp om världen. Utanför terrassen breder Teheran ut sig, men Jafar Panahi är isolerad i sin lägenhet med familjens iguana, som bokstavligen klättrar på väggarna. I väntan på att få sin dom om sex års fängelse och tjugo års yrkesförbud överklagad försöker regissören hitta luckor i lagen: Får han kanske läsa sitt manus högt? Kan han tejpa upp huvudpersonens rum, där hon är lika instängd som han är i verkligheten, på vardagsrumsmattan? Är telefonen en tillåten kamera? Får han säga "bryt" till sin fotograf Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, eller har han blivit regissör då? "Man kan bara prata om en film när den är filmad", utbrister han till slut och tappar nästan sitt berömda lugn inför tanken att han kanske aldrig ska få se vad skådespelare och miljöer skulle tillföra manuset. Cocteau iscensätter den grekiska myten i samtidens Paris där Orfeus får inspiration genom hemliga signaler han försöker dechiffrera från bilradion i sin Citroën DS (uttalas déesse, gudinna på franska). Orphée handlar främst om gränsen mellan olika världar, och att endast de gudomliga kan överträda dem. I Histoire(s) du cinéma finns ett porträtt av Poeten som en fundamental mystiker, den som har direkt kunskap om det gudomliga och måste överföra det till mänskligheten. Om Jean-Luc Godard ofta citerar Orphée beror det på att Jean Cocteau gestaltar tiden som en våldsam vind mot vilken vi går, likt Orfeus på vägen till dödsriket (Zonen). I ett myllrande hyreskomplex i centrala Budapest bor en ensamstående änka som försöker finna mening i tillvaron. Judit Elek spelade in filmens exteriöra scener på Budapest gator och drog in oskyldiga förbipasserande i fiktionen genom att låta skådespelaren Kiss Manyi kommentera deras samtal. Filmens interiöra delar (också de filmade i en dokumentär stil) består bland annat av dröjande bilder på förklädesklädda rituella vardagsbestyr som för tankarna till Chantal Akermans hyllade Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975). Orson Welles sitter vid klippbordet och drar runt på Ibiza i spirituell filmessä om lögn och sanning, delvis byggd på materialet till en dokumentär om konstförfalskaren Elmer de Hory. Bland de många medverkande finns journalisten Clifford Irving, som förfalskade Howard Hughes självbiografi och sålde den dyrt till ett bokförlag. Även Pablo Picasso skymtar förbi i denna skamlöst underhållande film. Welles är en viktig referens i Histoire(s) du cinéma där många av hans filmer är citerade. Det som sammanför Welles och Jean-Luc Godards videoessäer är att båda väver in sig själva och sina verk i de historier de berättar. De visar även på klippbordets betydelse för filmernas tillblivelse genom montaget av bilder och ljud. Redan i avsnitt 1a ser vi en bild på Welles med texten "It's all true". Detta syftar dels på det ironiska att vi i B som i bluff aldrig är säkra på vad som är sant eller falskt. Dom kallar oss amatörer

DOM KALLAR OSS AMATÖRER - Ögonblick av okänd svensk filmhistoria Begreppet amatörfilm är ett kontroversiellt begrepp som tyvärr ofta har använts om "icke intressant film" eller "icke hantverksmässigt skicklig film". Under rubriken "Dom kallar oss amatörer" vill vi med ett kuraterat kortfilmsprogram visa på motsatsen och ge en bild av en viktig del av den svenska filmhistorien som ofta glöms bort, nämligen den del som växte fram vid sidan av den traditionella filmindustrin genom de olika film- och fotoklubbar som bildades runt om i Sverige från slutet av 1930-talet. Det är fortfarande en näst intill okänd del av svensk filmhistoria, trots att flera uppmärksammade filmregissörer en gång började som just amatörer och fria filmare i begreppets verkliga betydelse; av franska amateur, latinets, amare, amator, som betyder "En som älskar". På jakt efter filmskatter, främst i Sveriges Filmförbunds arkiv men också i privata arkiv, blir det tydligt att Sveriges amatörfilmshistoria innehåller många dolda pärlor . Inte minst inom den animerade filmen. I medlemstidningarna Svensk Smalfilm och Filmkrets återfinns flera artiklar som fokuserar på animationsfilmens hantverk och ingående presenterar okända filmare. En av dem var Börje Windfeldt från Helsingborg. Han var lastbilschaufför i hela sitt liv och samtidigt en av Sveriges mest prisbelönade filmare inom animerad film, nationellt såväl som internationellt. Han var aktiv i Helsingborgs Foto- & Filmklubb och dess ordförande under många år, fram till sin död 1999. I Folkrörelsearkivet i Helsingborg fann vi över fyrtio av hans kortfilmer i pappkartonger och plåtburkar, och att möta en okänd filmares livsverk blev som att återfinna tiden och de magiska ögonblicken i skapandet "när allt är möjligt". Börjes filmarv, liksom flera andra idag kända filmskapares första filmer, är unika och viktiga tidsdokument som kommenterar vårt samhälle och som möjliggjort att upphovspersonerna senare kommit in på filmskolor och kunnat debutera med sina första långfilmer, som Gabriella Pichler, Marcus Karlsson, Nathalie Álvarez med flera. I arbetet med att undersöka de mest aktiva filmklubbarna under 1950- och 60-talen, och genom kontakt med filmskaparen Jan Troell, visade det sig att Troell fick sitt första fotografipris av Lennart Bernadotte, då fotograf och förste ordförande i nybildade riksförbundet Sveriges Amatörfilmare. Och 1957 vann Troell sitt första filmpris i filmtävlingen "Svensk smalfilm" med sin 8 mm-film Sommarhamn (1958). En film, som fram till idag har varit relativt okänd för filmhistoriker, filminstitut och filmarkiv. I en intervju berättar Troell att filmpriset betydde att han på allvar övervägde att lämna sitt arbete som lärare och helt ägna sig åt filmskapandet. Sommarhamn, och den svenska amatörfilmen i stort, är bevis på filmensoch bildens exakta avgjutning av tid och händelser i det svenska samhället från mitten av 1950-talet till nutid . Utan tvekan har svensk amatörfilm varit en viktig del i den svenska folkbildningen och folkrörelsen i Sverige. Upptäckten av dessa folkliga filmskatter ställer viktiga frågor; Hur kommer det sig att en människas handlingar och livsverk bara försvinner efter hennes död? Vilka är villkoren för att bli ihågkommen? Vem blir erkänd filmare och konstnär? Och vad är egentligen ett filmarv? Text av Göran Du Rées. Visningen leds av Göran Du Rées, filmregissör, professor emeritus i filmregi, och initiativtagare till Filmhögskolan i Göteborg (idag HDK-Valand), och Aase Högfeldt, musiker, filmproducent och konstnärlig ledare för Sveriges äldsta och årliga kortfilmsfestival. De bjuder på en resa genom den okända svenska filmhistorien med filmskatter från slutet av 1950-talet fram till idag. 1964 startade Svenska Filminstitutet en visningsverksamhet för allmänheten för att tillgängliggöra de filmsamlingar man övertagit från Filmhistoriska samlingarna, samt för att öka intresset för filmhistorien och filmkonsten. Med fokus på samlingarna visades klassiker och icke-kommersiell modern film i ABF-huset på Sveavägen i Stockholm. Sedan dess har fler än 30 000 filmer, från hela världen och från alla tider, visats under namnet Svenska Filminstitutets Filmklubb, senare Cinemateket. Internationella filmskapare har introducerats för en svensk publik och bortglömda svenska filmer har fått ett andra liv. Under rubriken "Rekonstruktion" lyfts en programpunkt från alla dessa år fram för att berätta om Cinematekets och svensk filmkulturs historia. Sedan starten har Cinemateket haft en tradition av att lyfta fram och visa svensk amatörfilm och har under åren arrangerat en rad aftnar och minifestivaler med smalfilm och amatörfilm.
