David Fincher's personal favorites span classic Hollywood, crime, science fiction, horror, comedy and epic cinema. A widely circulated list of 26 films came from a handwritten list Fincher prepared when asked for influential movies he had seen growing up. Fincher later clarified that the list was originally intended as a list of influential films rather than a definitive ranking of his greatest movies. He has nevertheless explicitly described several of these films as favorites, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and has spoken at length about his childhood relationship with films such as Jaws and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
